When you’re stripped of all you own - all possessions, all clothes, all achievements - and you’re alone in the dark, then you find out who you really are.
Let me strip you back entirely - take everything from you that can be taken. What remains is who you really are. It’s frightening to discover how much you are not - those things you think you hold so dear, that you think are what makes you you, but can be twisted and broken and taken so easily. But there is a pure, peaceful, certainty to be had in discovering that no matter how much you give up, no matter how much you surrender, no matter how much is destroyed - you remain. More pure, and more perfect, than ever.
